When Patti over at http://babynumber10.blogspot.com first blogged about Peter, I will admit, I didn’t hold out much hope for his rescue. Peter is another child on Reece’s Rainbow who needs a family to adopt him. It is burdensome to peruse this website, reading about the children who need homes. The woman in contact with Patti told her that there had never been a single inquiry about poor Peter. He has Down Syndrome and many of the common health problems associated with it, including a heart defect. He needs love, but he also needs surgery and medication and lots of therapy. Which takes money. Patti was assured that nothing short of the full $20,000 adoption grant would save Peter. I mean, we all want to do the right thing, but how many people out there truly have the resources to take in a child with those needs? I am not a person like that. I’m not proud of it. I would accept a child like Peter born to me, but to seek one out is not in my character. My only consolation to admitting this defect of mine is the faith that those people do exist. They’re out there.
And now I have proof.
According to Patti’s website today, a family has come forward for Peter. Somebody out there read the description of his considerable ailments, looked at his photographs – which bear evidence of his problems – and decided, “That’s my son.” Patti is giving all of the credit to her god, whom she believes is big and good beyond measure. My beliefs are somewhat different. I have to give my awe and devotion to the human beings who are making this happen. All of them. Peter’s adoption grant had over $12,000 in it last I checked ($10,000 this morning, and $2,000 more a few hours later). People are amazing. It brings to mind a line from the film “Contact,” where an alien says to Jodie Foster something along the lines of, “You’re an interesting species. Capable of the most beautiful dreams, and the most horrific nightmares.” Even as I watch on the news what is happening in Egypt, or look at my own country and see billionaires red in the face screaming about how the president is going to ruin their America, I click on Patti’s blog and see that there are people in this SAME world who give and love and care. Can you be part of that world too? Ten bucks would be plenty. Five if ten is too much.
Patti says she can’t wait to reveal who Peter’s new family is. I’ve got my fingers crossed it’s Brangelina.
Great post. I’m amazed by Patti, too.
She has assured me it is not Brangelina. I am seriously disappointed.
